Of course, the one fruit forever associated with
Hawaii is the pineapple, that most luscious, sumptious, and
mouth-watering of fruits received its celebrity status when it was
crowned “King of Fruit.”
A pineapple not sun-ripened in Hawaii was, well, simply not a real
pineapple and Dole Company, the main grower in the islands, made
sure the world understood that.

With the commercialization of Hawaii, the
islands’ appeal reached many a product label in the form of
